Adventure Tours Across Northern Pakistan

Two of northern Pakistan’s defining landscapes, back to back. Fly into Skardu and ride straight onto the Deosai Plateau ,a treeless, 4,114m-high wilderness home to the Himalayan brown bear ,then turn north onto the old Silk Road corridor: the Karakoram Highway through Hunza and Passu, all the way to Khunjerab Pass at the Chinese border. Ten days, 1,165 km, flying in and out of Islamabad.

Follow a modern route along the old Silk Road, by private coach from Islamabad through the Kaghan Valley and over Babusar Pass to Gilgit, then by motorcycle along the Karakoram Highway to Khunjerab Pass, 4,693m above sea level and the highest paved international border on earth. Along the way: the cliff-edge Shimshal road, rated among the most dramatic in the world, and a night beside Pakistan’s own cold desert in Skardu.

Ride to Pakistan’s highest and most remote corners in ten days. Cross Deosai, the world’s second-highest alpine plateau, reach Hushe, the last inhabited village of the Karakoram, and hike to the base of Nanga Parbat (8,126m), the ninth-highest mountain on earth. Between the passes, you’ll pass through valleys where daily life has barely changed in a generation. Starts and ends in Skardu.

The full sweep of northern Pakistan in fourteen days, with no road repeated. Start under the Himalaya at Nanga Parbat’s Fairy Meadows, cross into the Karakoram for Shimshal and Chapursan, then finish in the Hindu Kush over Shandur Pass and two days in Kalash Valley. A one-way route: rides start in Skardu and finish in Chitral.
