Deosai national park

Deosai National Park, often called the “Land of Giants,” is one of the untouched places in Pakistan. Sitting at an average height of 4,114 meters, Deosai is the world’s second-highest plateau, famous for its endless meadows, crystal-clear streams, and incredible wildlife.

Because of its height, the weather here is extreme — the air has low oxygen, the sun is very strong, and winters bring heavy snowfall. Deosai also receives more rainfall than many nearby areas because it sits in the path of monsoon clouds.

Nature & Landscape
Deosai lies where the Himalayas, Karakoram, Pamir, Zanskar, and Ladakh mountain ranges meet. This unique location creates a rich mix of plants, animals, and landscapes.
The famous Sheosar Lake, also called Blind Lake, sits at around 4,250 meters and is one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world. Many rivers like Bara Pani, Kala Pani, and Shatung flow across the plateau and join the Shigar River, which later becomes part of the Indus River.

Wildlife & Birds

Deosai is a paradise for wildlife lovers. Animals found here include:

  • Himalayan Brown Bear
  • Tibetan wolf
  • Himalayan ibex
  • Marmot
  • Tibetan  fox
In spring and early summer, the whole plateau turns into a carpet of wildflowers with butterflies hovering all around.
