Chunda Valley – Hidden Gem of Skardu

Chunda Valley in Skardu makes that dream a reality. Located about 35 km from Skardu town at an elevation of roughly 2,500 m, this scenic valley offers breathtaking mountain views, vibrant orchards, and a peaceful escape for tourists, adventurers, researchers, and travelers from near and far.

Perched 500 m above Skardu town, Chunda Valley is accessible via a 1-hour drive (approximately 10 km) from the airport through rugged jeep tracks—4×4 vehicles are recommended. Visitors can also reach it on foot or using local transport. 

During spring and summer, Chunda bursts into life with blooming apricot, apple, and cherry trees, while autumn paints the valley in shades of gold and crimson. 

Ideal Season: April–September, with cherry blossoms at their peak from late February to April.
Summer (May–Sept): Pleasant temperatures between 15–27 °C, sunny days, and cool nights; occasional brief showers possible.
Winter (Nov–Mar): Harsh conditions with sub-zero temperatures; roads may become impassable.
Be sure to bring layers and prepare for sudden weather changes, as the valley’s weather can shift quickly. Thanks to the Karakoram range, rainfall is generally low.
